Letter From the Founder
In 1996 when I founded Mobile Anesthesiologists, the migration of patient surgeries from hospital to office-based or ambulatory surgery centers was just beginning. As an advocate for patient safety, I worked diligently with AAAHC to help achieve as high or a higher standard of care in the ambulatory and office-based setting as currently exists in hospitals. Subsequently we became one of the first independently accredited office-based anesthesia practices in the U.S.
Today, more than ten years later, I continue to be heavily involved with and work with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), The Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA), federal and state regulatory agencies, state legislatures, and the major accreditation bodies on various levels. First and foremost, we continue our endeavors to achieve the highest quality of patient care. Additionally, we seek to establish the appropriate benchmarks to assure the highest-quality physicians; and last but not least I am heavily involved in helping increase the number of surgical/medical procedures that can safely migrate to the office setting.
With outpatient surgery now accounting for almost 80% of all surgical procedures performed in the U.S., and with more than 20% of the total performed in the physician’s office, more and more physicians are recognizing the benefits of Mobile Anesthesiologists for their practices, but perhaps more importantly, for the comfort and convenience of their patients. Payers too, have recognized the efficacy of office-based surgery in helping contain the rising cost of medicine.
At Mobile, with our nationwide expansion underway, we are excited about the industry’s growth and its positive impact on the future of medicine. We remain committed to advancing the practice of office-based and ambulatory anesthesia and a staunch advocate for patient safety.
